The most difficult aspect of daily life is looking in the mirror, Mirrors don't lie. Mirrors tell the naked Truth. Mirrors don't care about hurting your feelings. Mirrors make no effort to be kind. Mirrors just reflect what is in front of them.
Cameras are mirrors with a twist. With a Camera as a Mirror we literally get to choose to see Truth or to use a Filter. Ways to enhance and dress up the reflection. Ways to put on some decoration or even some makeup. Imagination and the filters available are the only limits to adjusting reflections.
What are Filters? Bluntly put, Filters are Lies.
Along the way we come to the place of seeing what is in our mirror. The challenge is the view is often like tunnel vision or being unable to see the forest for the trees. Applying the standard methods of counseling and behavior modification just adds to the weight of Survival Mode.Â
What's that weight?Â
Pain. Often looking in the mirror resembles a fun house mirror reflecting things back to us through a distorted mirror of lies. In any and every circumstance feeling like a failure with every turn and step, particularly relationships.Â
Pain is a powerful motivator.Â
Wielded by the kingdom of darkness lies are reinforced and entrenched reducing clarity of vision, promoting separation. Pain can keep one crippled and locked up even if the Door to the prison has been opened by Jesus.Â
Pain in the hands of a Loving Father on the other hand, is a sword that takes every detail of our lives and weaves it together to fit into God's perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are each His lovers who have been called to fulfill His designed purpose. (Romans 8:28 TPT adapted)
What kind of Pain are we talking about?Â
Emotional Pain. The kind brought on by unspeakable trauma. The kind of Pain that comes with sweeping Emotions under the rug and the effort to bury them as though they don't matter and have no effect. Even when the rug is like a lopsided hat on the top of your Emotional volcano that erupts inexplicably.
We choose our filters
Let us be real. The way that we think we look is a lie. Remember getting up from bed and catching a quick look in the mirror? Remember the shock that how you actually looked didn't match the picture in your mind? The picture in your mind shows you how you think you look. Flawless skin. Hair beautifully arranged. The Mirror, tells the truth. Hair sticking up, smudged makeup, wrinkles. What? How can that be? Your mind has filters that are applied automatically to match what you believe about yourself. The seeds for the filters you view life with have been planted from the beginning of your life.
